The 1st Edition of the National Meeting of One-Stop Shops’ Directors

The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency organized, on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, the First Edition of the National Meeting of One-Stop Shops’ Directors from all the Wilayas of the country. The event was held under the theme: “For Greater Efficiency in Serving Investment and Investors” at the headquarters of the National Housing Bank in Algiers.

The meeting, inaugurated by the Director General, Mr. Omar RAKKACHE, was attended by the Representative of the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Agency’s Board, Mr. Youcef ATIK, along with the Director General of Customs, Major General Abdelhafid BAKHOUCHE, the Director General of Taxes, Ms. Amel ABDELATIF, the Director General of the National Domains, Mr. Abdelrahman KHIDI, representatives of ministerial departments, heads of professional associations, public corporate groups, as well as Algerian and international experts.

In his opening speech, the Director General emphasized that this meeting “comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the Agency’s competence, which has made significant strides in improving its services and performance. This meeting will constitute the launch of a permanent tradition of consultation, performance evaluation, accountability, and discussing ways to improve services provided to project holders.”

The Director General reaffirmed that this meeting “represents an important step in our journey towards contributing to the development of the investment system in Algeria and implementing the profound reforms made by the President of the Republic, aimed at making Algeria a distinguished destination for both national and foreign investments.”

In this regard, the Director General stated that “the upcoming phase requires greater mobilization and intensified efforts to facilitate the act of investing and attract new investments that effectively contribute to achieving the ambitious goal of implementing 20,000 investment projects on the ground in the medium term.”

The program of the meeting included the presentations of: Ms. Khaoula MOSTEFAI, representing the Agency, on the current state and aspirations of the One-Stop Shops, Mr. Kamal KHEFFACHE, a member of the High National Commission for Investment Appeals, on the Commission’s role, the International Expert Salim SAIFI, on best practices for regional investment promotion and the International Expert Myriam SAFR, presenting a comparative study on one-stop shops.

The event also provided an opportunity to honor:

  • Mr. Khaled BOUGUERRA, former Director General of the Investment Promotion, Support, and Follow-Up Agency.
  • Mr. Abdelmadjid BAGHDADLI, former Director General of the National Investment Development Agency.
  • Several other One-Stop Shops Directors and central executives.

On this occasion, the Director General announced the launch of the annual “Excellence Award: Best One-Stop Shop” as a new step towards enhancing a spirit of competition and innovation. This award aims to encourage excellence and competition among one-stop shops across various Wilayas. The award will honor the one-stop shop that demonstrates outstanding performance in serving investors, accelerating procedures, and innovating solutions to challenges. This annual tradition will promote fair competition and inspire all to deliver their best efforts in advancing the national economy.

The Agency participates in the 3rd Edition of the African Startup Conference

The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, represented by Ms. Imane TOUMI, Director at the Agency, participated in a panel discussion on strengthening economic relations between Algeria and Ethiopia. The discussion took place on December 6th, 2024, on the sidelines of the third edition of the African Startup Conference, held in Algiers from the 5th to the 7th of December, 2024.

This discussion brought together representatives of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, along with business leaders from both countries, to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in key sectors.

Participants also reviewed the current state of economic relations to identify potential areas of collaboration and discussed strategies to enhance trade, investment, and knowledge exchange between Algeria and Ethiopia.

The Agency participates in ANIMA’s General Assembly

As part of activating its membership in the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Investment Promotion Agencies ANIMA, the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, represented by Mr. Abderezzak HAMMADI, director at the Agency, participated in the General Assembly and Annual Conference held in Marseille on the 3rd and 5th of December, 2024.

This event brought together key operators in the field of investment in the Mediterranean region, providing a unique platform for exchanging visions on economic prospects and cooperation opportunities.

The Agency participates in the Algeria-South Africa Economic Forum

The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency participated in the Algeria-South Africa Economic Forum, held in Algiers on the occasion of the state visit carried out by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Matamela Cyril RAMAPHOSA.

The forum, which was organized by the Ministry of Commerce in coordination with the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, saw the participation of business leaders and economic operators from both countries active in various sectors. 

During this event, the representatives of the Agency provided a presentation on Algeria’s investment climate and the available investment opportunities.

Investment and Economic Diversification :
Dialogue around the experciences of Central Europe

The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation in Algeria and in coordination with the embassies of Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic in Algeria, organized a forum on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at the Mariott Hotel in Bab Ezzouar, Algiers. The forum was held under the theme: “Investment and Economic Diversification: Dialogue around the experiences of Central Europe.”

The opening of the forum, which is part of the “Algerian-European Sustainable Investment Partnership” project, was overseen by the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Mr. Omar REKKACHE; the EU Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Diego Mellado PASCUA; the Hungarian Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Goban Levente SZARKA; and a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Arezki YAHIAOUI.

The Director General of the Agency, in his opening speech, highlighted the context of  this meeting, emphasizing its significant importance for our country, which continues to implement profound and comprehensive economic reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and enhancing the attractiveness of the national economy to both local and foreign direct investments.

He also recalled the deep reforms that have affected the legal framework for investment, driven by the conviction and awareness of the President of the Republic that economic diversification and the transition towards a strong and sustainable economy require a transparent and attractive investment environment built on trust and effective partnership.

For his part, the European Union Ambassador to Algeria praised the Algerian-European partnership, describing it as “strong” and highlighting that “the European continent is currently the largest customer of Algerian gas and the primary investor in Algeria.” In the same context, he emphasized that joint investments between Algeria and Europe must “align with the energy transition currently being pursued by EU countries.”

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs highlighted the importance of this meeting in showcasing Algeria’s potential and investment opportunities. He also noted that it serves as a platform for exchanging expertise among all direct parties by studying the economic transformation of some European countries.

The forum provided an opportunity for the exchange of views among various concerned parties, from both the private and public sectors, regarding the economic transformation in Central European countries over the past 35 years and how these experiences could be applied in Algeria. Algerian, Hungarian, Polish, and Czech experts and academics discussed the acquired experiences in the field of macroeconomic stability, attracting investments, and economic reforms, particularly in the financial sector, in Algeria and Central European countries.

The meeting also included the presentation of recommendations aimed at contributing to the achievement of the objectives set in the partnership agreement by strengthening economic cooperation between Algeria and European countries in all areas of mutual benefit.
