The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation in Algeria and in coordination with the embassies of Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic in Algeria, organized a forum on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at the Mariott Hotel in Bab Ezzouar, Algiers. The forum was held under the theme: “Investment and Economic Diversification: Dialogue around the experiences of Central Europe.”
The opening of the forum, which is part of the “Algerian-European Sustainable Investment Partnership” project, was overseen by the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Mr. Omar REKKACHE; the EU Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Diego Mellado PASCUA; the Hungarian Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Goban Levente SZARKA; and a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Arezki YAHIAOUI.
The Director General of the Agency, in his opening speech, highlighted the context of this meeting, emphasizing its significant importance for our country, which continues to implement profound and comprehensive economic reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and enhancing the attractiveness of the national economy to both local and foreign direct investments.
He also recalled the deep reforms that have affected the legal framework for investment, driven by the conviction and awareness of the President of the Republic that economic diversification and the transition towards a strong and sustainable economy require a transparent and attractive investment environment built on trust and effective partnership.
For his part, the European Union Ambassador to Algeria praised the Algerian-European partnership, describing it as “strong” and highlighting that “the European continent is currently the largest customer of Algerian gas and the primary investor in Algeria.” In the same context, he emphasized that joint investments between Algeria and Europe must “align with the energy transition currently being pursued by EU countries.”
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs highlighted the importance of this meeting in showcasing Algeria’s potential and investment opportunities. He also noted that it serves as a platform for exchanging expertise among all direct parties by studying the economic transformation of some European countries.
The forum provided an opportunity for the exchange of views among various concerned parties, from both the private and public sectors, regarding the economic transformation in Central European countries over the past 35 years and how these experiences could be applied in Algeria. Algerian, Hungarian, Polish, and Czech experts and academics discussed the acquired experiences in the field of macroeconomic stability, attracting investments, and economic reforms, particularly in the financial sector, in Algeria and Central European countries.
The meeting also included the presentation of recommendations aimed at contributing to the achievement of the objectives set in the partnership agreement by strengthening economic cooperation between Algeria and European countries in all areas of mutual benefit.
